Export Week specs
Packing, labelling and freight handover points for Export Week assemblies.
Carton and label release points
The Export Week specs page sets out the handling points that matter once boards are packed and nearly ready to leave site. It covers the awkward cases around cartons, labels, paperwork and freight handover that usually appear after the line itself has settled.
Export Week specs start once tested boards move from line output to packing benches. Record carton size, anti-static bag type, desiccant count and outer label format before stock is closed for dispatch. South African export loads often need the paperwork stack checked against courier bookings, especially where consignments move through Johannesburg before leaving the country.
Photograph the first sealed carton with its shipping mark, weight label and pallet position visible. That image helps when a carton count, waybill reference or handling sticker is queried after the truck has left site. Keep the packing sheet with the batch record, not loose at dispatch.
What leaves with the consignment
Tie each assembly to its export pack method, carton count and document set. Include any handling limits for moisture sensitive devices, fragile connectors or boards packed with standoffs fitted. One clear handover note is more useful than separate scraps from stores, QA and despatch.
Link Export Week specs to the matching reflow record and a Board notes entry before release for freight. Check packed quantities, carton labels and serial references one last time before collection. SMT line enquiries should name the board type, the placement volume and the machines already on the line.
- Carton sizes matched to board count
- First sealed box photographed at dispatch
- Packing record kept with shipment file
Export handling points in South Africa
Freight timing changes how export packs are closed out during busy OR Tambo periods and late-week collections. Teams dispatching from Gauteng often separate completed boards by courier cut-off, pallet build and customs document status. Where stock moves from factory to a forwarding agent, note the transfer point and who signs for carton count.
Coastal humidity matters when boards sit packed before uplift, so barrier bags and desiccant need checking against hold time. Inland dust can contaminate open cartons if packing waits beside active production areas. Load-shedding plans should cover label printing, scale verification and access to electronic shipment records.

Records needed before freight handover
Use Export Week for assemblies that need the usual SMT flow aligned with export packing and paperwork.
File the export packing note on the day the shipment is closed. Add invoice references, carton weights, pallet totals and any special marks requested by the customer or forwarder. That keeps the SMT batch history aligned with what actually left site.
