Install Checklist

An install checklist for South African SMT floors, from offload and positioning to power, air and first article sign-off.

When Install Checklist matters during a plant week

Install Checklist in resources covers the practical steps around bringing SMT equipment onto the floor. It runs from offload and positioning through power, air connections and first article sign-off.

Use the Install Checklist before the truck doors open. Record machine model, serial numbers, crate condition, and the bay where each unit will stand. Note whether the site is inland or coastal, what power is available at the line, and whether compressed air points are ready near placement, printer, and reflow equipment.

Take arrival photos before any wrapping is removed or castors are unlocked. Capture the pallet labels, lifting points, bay markings, and any damage on panels, covers, or conveyor sections. Those images help when levelling starts and when transport damage must be separated from site-related issues.

Offload records and bay prep

A completed sheet should show where each machine was placed, who signed for delivery, and what utilities were connected. Include levelling results, air pressure readings, and the first article outcome for the board used during handover. Keep one copy with the project file and one near the line for follow-up snags.

Link the Install Checklist to feeder setup photos, oven profile records, and board approval notes before production begins. Check earth points, network drops, safety guards, and barcode readers one more time after power-up.

  • Crate damage logged before offload
  • Air, power, and earth checked
  • First article signed by production

Utility checks for SA sites

We work around OR Tambo export cycles, warehouse dispatch cut-offs, older industrial buildings, and demo hours where electronics teams still need to show a machine in person. We do not write as if every site is a greenfield install. If your SMT line is already past the starter stage, say that up front. Separate the urgent request from the normal weekly production plan.

Coastal plants need closer attention to rust marks, cabinet seals, and dry air quality during commissioning. Inland sites often need dust control around feeders, sensors, and exposed rails before the first board is run. Where power interruptions are common, capture machine backups and home positions before the line is left unattended.

First article and handover checks

Use this Install Checklist to record machine photos, install timing, and issues picked up before the line goes into production. Keep the subject line plain and accurate.

Close the Install Checklist only after conveyors transfer correctly, safety interlocks trip as expected, and the sample board passes the agreed inspection point. Add operator names, training completed on the day, and any open items that still need parts or settings. That record becomes the reference when the line moves from install into normal production.
